Gemma is All Things Pilates’ company director, physiotherapist and Pilates instructor who thrives on continuous learning, being active in her community and regular attention to her own fitness and health.
She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2010 with a Masters in Physiotherapy and began her career working for a local private practice and the Beaconsfield Rugby team. In 2011, she trained as a Pilates teacher and began teaching during her evenings and weekends whilst she worked in some of the leading London teaching hospitals including the Royal Brompton, University College Hospital and the Royal Marsden; advancing her knowledge in musculoskeletal injuries, rehabilitation and the management of breathing pattern dysfunction.
For the winter of 2015/16 Gemma took a break from London and her work at All Things Pilates to learn more about ski biomechanics, performance and the prevention of ski injuries with the team at Bonne Santé Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy and Massage Clinic, Val d’Isere. In 2016, she returned from France with her partner Andreas at which point they started the adventure of running All Things Pilates.
Two years on Andreas and Gemma feel lucky enough to work with an enthusiastic and talented team and a supportive and inspiring client base.
Outside of the studio Gemma loves time with her friends and family and all things movement. Her hobbies currently include skiing, CrossFit and Paddle boarding which drives her passion for helping others to stay fit and healthy for the lives they wish to lead. Being involved in sport has not only driven her to advance her knowledge in sport and rehabilitation but also means she has great empathy with those trying to get back to their best.
Her interest in injury prevention is what drives her to practice and teach Pilates and other related forms of strength and conditioning programmes. As a result you can expect to see quite a lot of variation in her exercise prescription and Pilates programmes. Currently she is working on her gymnastic skills with the support of her studio team and CrossFit 2012. She loves to discuss the pros and cons of various training programmes if you catch her with a free minute.
Currently my own goals are:
Building a pilates community that supports teachers and clients in finding their strengths and using these to improve their health and inspire others.
At the studio:
Achieving a 10 second handstand away from the ladder barrel or wall
Able to link ‘toes to bar’
Currently I’m enjoying:
Focusing on our mindfulness course and winter wellness for our clients.
Training sessions with colleagues focusing on varied Pilates’ programmes, handstands and Deadlifts.
