Who’d like to climb a tree?
Dear <<First Name>>,

We’re really excited about our latest themed program for our Reformer Plus Classes.  It’s great to see how everyone is progressing with Arabesque and Climb a Tree.  (We love the names – Arabesque sounds so elegant and balletic, while Climb a Tree just sounds like fun!)  They’re both full body movements – but as you’ll see below, we build up the movements gradually, so that you can work at the best pace and range for your body that day.

This week in Community Corner we’re taking a closer look at Climb a Tree to understand a little more about the movement and its benefits in everyday life.

Despite the dark mornings, it’s great to see so many of you at our online classes on Wednesday and Friday mornings.  A reminder that the Friday morning class is now at the slightly later time of 7.30am (led by Gemma).  The classes are full of energy and a great way to start the day – you can book your place below.

We are offering a First Aid Training Course on Sunday 26 February.  It will be delivered by Saving Lives at Work (who are specialists in this area) and will be held in the studio.  There are still some places available, so if you’re interested, please see below for more details.

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online soon!

 First Aid Course

Have you ever found yourself in a situation where someone has been injured and you’re not sure what to do?  Would you like to be able to perform CPR or use a defibrillator (or even know how to find one)?

If that sounds like you, then you may be interested in joining our First Aid Course at the studio on Sunday 26 February from 10am to 4pm.

The course will be facilitated by Saving Lives at Work, who are experts in this area and will lead to a Level 3 Certificate in Emergency First Aid at Work, valid for 3 years.

As well as covering CPR, you’ll also learn how to treat minor injuries and what to do – and not to do – while you’re waiting for paramedics to arrive.  Of course, it’s not limited to work situations and covers accidents at home too, including accidents involving children.

All of our team will be attending and from past experience, the course will be delivered in a highly professional, but very relaxed manner.

The course is priced at £125 (highly competitive rate benchmarked against other providers) and we think, offers great value for money.

If you’re interested in joining, please let us know.

All Things Pilates Community Corner!

This week we thought we’d take a look at ‘Climb a Tree’ – one of the exercises in our new Find your Flow® program.

As always, we’ll offer a range of progressions over the course of the next few weeks.  It’s great to take a snapshot of where you are at the start of the program, so that you can reflect on – and of course, celebrate – your progress over the course of the program.

Although we’ll be doing it on the Reformer, we can perform ‘Climb a Tree’ on the mat and the ladder barrel too.  If you’d like to practise at home, ask your teacher about the mat version.

‘Climb a Tree’ isn’t a position that we find ourselves in on a daily basis, so why do we do this exercise?

As you can see from the pictures above, this is a fully body movement.  Core muscles are active throughout.  Both legs are active – you’re sending them away from each other in a form of splits.  You’ll really feel your hamstrings (muscles at the back of your legs) working.  You’ll also feel a stretch in the hip flexor of your ‘standing leg’.  In the more advance positions you’ll experience spinal articulation and amazing chest expansion.

So, translating this to everyday life, practising ‘Climb a Tree’ is great for your posture – and a super release for any of us who spend a lot of time sitting at a desk, in the car, on a sofa etc.  For walkers, runners, cyclists and others, it’s great for strengthening and lengthening hamstring muscles and hip flexors.

Quite apart from all of these benefits, it’s also a fun exercise to do – let us know what you think as we go through the program!
