NEW:  Bank Holiday Class AND Reformer Fundamentals Class
What’s on this week: 1 May – 6 May

Dear <<First Name>>,

With heavy hearts we said Farewell to Becky this week.  Although she is leaving us to start an exciting new chapter with her family in Suffolk, we are so sad to see her go.  Becky has been such a supportive team member, as well as being a great teacher.  We know that clients have enjoyed working with her as much as we have, and have made enormous strides towards their health goals.  We’ll all miss her, but wish her every success with the move.  We had a small farewell party with our Bone Health and Posture team after their class this week – more of that in Community Corner below!

Thank you and Good Luck Becky!

We know that some of you will be away this weekend for the first of the three Bank Holidays in May!  However, for those of us staying at home, we are offering a Reformer Plus Classes on Monday at 12.30pm.  If you’d like to join us, you can book your place below.

The following weekend (6 – 8 May), the Studio will be closed all weekend.

Our Reformer Fundamentals Class has been a real success. It’s great to see so many of your now progressing to our regular Reformer Plus Classes – it’s testament to your hard work and commitment.  We know that Wednesday evenings don’t work for everyone, so in response to demand, we are opening a NEW Reformer Fundamentals Class on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm.

It’s an ideal class for beginners, so if you’d like to try Reformer Pilates, you can book your place below.

We are progressing well with our Tendon Stretch/Gymnast program and are so impressed with the progress you’ve all been making.  It’s wonderful to witness those ‘breakthrough’ moments when someone goes from ‘I don’t think I can’ to ‘Yay – I’m doing it!’

For those of us who may want to practice outside of class, we are looking at setting up some guided or self-practice opportunities in the Studio.  It’s a great way to hone in on movements that you find more challenging – or to celebrate the movements that you love doing – in a relaxed atmosphere.  Watch this space for more news of that in coming weeks!

We hope you have a great week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online soon!

All Things Pilates Community Corner!

This week we thought we’d share with you a little of the vibe in our Bone Health and Posture Class!  We find it hard to believe that many (but not all!) of the group are well into their 70s and 80s – you’d never know it to see them move!  They are all so committed to their weekly practice with great focus and an enormous sense of fun.

A few weeks ago, someone mentioned that it was a long time since they’d practised the Plank – the challenge was on!  Becky devised a program that helped build up full body strength and stability to enable everyone to find – and hold – really great planks.  (Of course, this program built on the many years of practice the group had already put in.)

This week, one of the class members (who by choice will remain anonymous!) came to class on her 81st Birthday.  How did she celebrate?  She held her plank for seconds short of a full minute (and we have the video and photo above to prove it!)

Pilates is a super form of exercise for older adults – it’s never too late to start!  As it is low impact, it is far less severe on the joints than many other forms of exercise.  Pilates can be beneficial for a number of reasons, including:
– improved stabilitybalance and proprioception (body awareness)
– improved posture and flexibility
– improved strength and mobility
– improved breathing and circulation.

As a weight-bearing exercise, Pilates can help prevent osteoporosis.  Some Pilates movements are not recommended for people with osteoporosis.  However, we are able to adapt programs to ensure that those clients can practise safely.

If you’re interested in joining a Bone Health and Posture classplease let us know.  If we have sufficient interest, we’d be delighted to introduce another class to our timetable!
