  What’s on this week: 10 – 15 October

Check out our Autumn timetable!

Dear <<First Name>>,

Autumn is such a lovely season – we’re revelling in the amazing palette of colour as the leaves turn, as well as the occasional aroma of burning leaves on our walks and cycle rides around local parks.  It’s also fun to see children (and parents!) gearing up for Halloween.  We haven’t gotten around to carving pumpkins yet, but we are already enjoying warming autumnal squash soups!

We are settling into Autumn in the studio too.  The Mat Class in the Studio on Wednesday evenings at 6.30pm is now in full swing, while our Reformer Fundamentals Class at 7.30pm on Wednesdays is ideal for anyone new to the Reformer.  In the class, you’ll learn the basics of the Reformer, enabling you to get the most from future classes.

If you know anyone who’d like to try Reformer Pilates, they may want to take advantage of one of our introductory offers:
– two mat classes for £18; or
– two x one-hour 1:1 sessions for £99; or
– a one-hour 1:1 session and a Reformer Plus Class for £60; or
–
one-hour 1:1 session and a Mat Class (online or in the studio) for £45.

Clients have told us that the 1:1 session is a great way of familiarising themselves with the Reformer, enabling them to jump confidently into a class!

We are still enjoying our new Find Your Flow®  series in the studio and online.  This time, the focus is on the Swan – and we are seeing some gorgeous swans gliding in the studio and in our online classes.  Read more about the Find Your Flow® method and the Swan by following the links.

Prone Press is one of the building blocks that we use to help everyone find their best Swan – read more about this movement in Community Corner below.

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online soon!

All Things Pilates Community Corner!

Over the last few weeks we have been taking a look at some of the movements that will help our bodies find our best Swan.

This week, we’re taking a look at the Prone Press.  It’s another of those movements that you can do on the Matthe Reformer and the Chair.  Wherever you’re practising your prone press, you’ll be working the same muscle groups, but with varying levels of support or challenge.

The Prone Press focuses on mobilising the thoracic spine (mid-spine) and ribs.  You’ll be using abdominal muscles and leg muscles to avoid over-use of the lower spine (often resulting in lower back pain).   We tend to use our thoracic spine a lot less than our lower spine, which is why so many people experience lower back pain when lifting, standing or walking for too long.  Mobilisation of the thoracic spine helps us to share the load across our spine, making movements more efficient and pain-free.  It will also help improve posture.

Your rotator cuff muscles will also be working to help you move smoothly through the movement.  The rotator cuff muscles are important as they assist in stabilising the shoulder joint and help you lift and lower and find internal and external rotation in your arms.  Importantly, your rotator cuffs help keep the head of your humerus in the shoulder socket.  Strong rotator cuff muscles will help you in everyday tasks, such as reaching to the top shelf at the supermarket, or even brushing your hair!

If you’d like to experience the Prone Press, book your place in a class – we’d love to share it with you!
