This week we started our new Find Your Flow® program – this one’s called Rowing. But don’t worry – we won’t be spending an hour on a rowing machine – phew!!
You’ll all be pleased to know that we are carrying forward – with some tweaks – some of the movements that you’ve been enjoying in previous programs, but we’ll be introducing some movements which will be new to some of you.
As with any Pilates program, we’ll be focusing on spinal mobility and alignment and on strengthening and stabilising muscles in our core. (There are many different views on what ‘the core’ is – when we refer to the core, we tend to think about all of the muscles that support the spine and organs.)
As with other programs, we’ll be exploring how breath can help us find range of movement or hold position in a challenging movement.
In this program in particular, we’ll be working on improving our shoulder mobility and dynamic stability – and we’ll be finding lots of rotations in our shoulders and arms.
‘But what about the legs?’ we hear you ask! Yes, as always, the legs won’t be left out! We’ll be working on our Bridging (with some interesting variations) and continuing our Step-Up practice (with a couple of innovations there too)! We’ll want to find length in our hamstring muscles (at the back of the thighs) – that will help us find an upright seated position for when we get to our rowing!
As with all of our six-week programs, we’ll challenge you each week, but will always offer alternatives for those times when we need it.
We’ve had a couple of practice runs of the program and love it – we hope you do to!
If you’d like to try our Rowing program, you can book your place in either our Reformer Plus Classes or our Reformer Fundamentals Classes and join in the fun! |
