  What’s on this week: 8 – 13 August
And a Special August Offer!

Dear <<First Name>>,

We celebrated a lovely moment this week when Hilary taught her first class in the studio, with support from our amazing Bone Health and Posture clients – under the watchful eye of Isla, who could barely contain her zeal to join in!  (She’ll be teaching in no time at all!)  We are always so inspired by our more senior clients, some of whom have reached the landmark age of 80 years young!  They really are a testament to Joseph Pilates’ adage that you’re as young (or old) as your spine feels.  With the benefit of a weekly class, we marvel at their spinal movement and overall strength and flexibility – we feel privileged to share those moments with them!

In other news, football finally came home!  And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve been treated to a feast of sport on our TV screens with the Commonwealth Games – we have enjoyed some real ‘wow’ moments in the pool, on the track and particularly in the gymnastics arena.  It will be sad to see it draw to a close later today!

Having been glued to TV screens for a couple of weeks, but inspired by the competitors, we’ll be heading outdoors to pursue our own challenges, whether swimming, cycling, jogging or strolling around the park.  Perhaps you have something more adventurous planned?  If so, we’d love to hear about it!

Don’t forget to find time for your Pilates practice too, whether in the studio or online – it will help you prepare for and recover from more strenuous activities, or restore mobility after sitting for too long watching TV!

To help you stay motivated, we have a special offer for Reformer Plus Classes in August.  Single classes will be priced at £30 per class (a saving of £5 on the usual price).  But don’t delay – this offer ends on 5 September!  Book your class below!

We also a couple of changes to our timetable over August, while some of the team are on leave – see below for more details.

This week in Community Corner, we’re taking another look at the Skater (Standing Side Splits on the Reformer).  Read more about this challenging but fun movement below!

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online soon!

All Things Pilates Community Corner!

To coincide with our Special August Offer, we thought we’d take another look at the Skater (Standing Side Splits on the Reformer).

Standing on a Reformer and doing the splits can sound a little intimidating to some of us – we may not be good with heights, or may feel that our balance isn’t good enough.  But don’t despair!  Our teachers are expert at helping you overcome the challenges (they have a myriad of ideas up their sleeves to help you) and importantly, will help you find the strength and stability you’ll need throughout your body to perform the movement well.

You can see from the video that Gemma is working hard from head to toes, to keep her upper body still and maintain a central position on the carriage.  She’s also using both legs (and feet) to help her slide the carriage away – and bring it back, while maintaining control throughout the movement.

There are some super variations in this movement to challenge balance and different muscle groups.

It helps build core strength and stability and improve balance.  It’s also great for pelvic mobility and strengthening muscles in the legs, particularly the adductors (inner thigh muscles)!  You’ll also feel all of the tiny muscles in your feet working to help you stabilise – and it can also help improve mobility in and around your ankles!

There are many isolated movements that you can do to help increase mobility and build up your strength to perform the Standing Side Splits well – and your warm-up is also really important.  If you’d like to give it a go, have a word with your teacher – she’d love to show you how!

If you know of anyone who’d like to try Pilates, we have some super introductory offers for clients who are new to the studio:
– a one hour 1:1 session and a Reformer Plus class for only £60; or
– a one hour 1:1 session and a Mat Class (online or in the studio) for only £45.

You can find and buy the introductory offers here.

Don’t forget to take advantage of our Special August Offer for Reformer Plus Classes – single classes are priced at £30 throughout August (a saving of £5)!
