    Kneeling Arms!

    Dear <<First Name>>,

Well, we may have missed the threatened snow and ice this week, but it was certainly cold, particularly for those up and at it early in the morning, or out and about in the evening!  Whether early in the morning, during the day, or in the evening, the Studio is particularly welcoming at the moment, with the tree and lights providing festive cheer.

As is tradition in the Studio now, we are inviting clients to help decorate our tree with a festive star, showing their gratitude for something in 2023 and their wish for 2024.  It might perhaps be something personal to you, or something global – that’s entirely up to you.  We have been looking back on some of 2023’s wishes – we hope that yours was fulfilled.

If you are now panicking about what to buy for the person who has everything (we all know at least one!)  our Gift Certificates could be the answer!  They’re such an original gift and for many recipients, they have proved to be a first step towards regular Pilates classes – and a healthy spine.  You can buy your gift certificate below.

Bookings in the run-up to Christmas are now live – we plan to stay open until Saturday 23 December.  Subject to demand, we may need to amend the class timetable for that week.  It would be really helpful if you could update your attendance so that we can manage the diary to ensure that it suits as many clients as possible – thanks!

Have a wonderful week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online.

    Gift Certificates

At Christmas time many of us are considering health and wellbeing.  So why not consider the gift of a healthy spine!  Our gift certificates can be purchased for any value and can be used in payment for any of our services – whether 1:1 sessionsduet (2:1) sessions or classes.

It’s  great to see a group of friends booking into Reformer Classes together.  It brings a unique energy to the class as everyone cheers each other along.  While working hard, there’s also time for laughter as everyone gets to grips with what can be, at first, rather unusual movements!

If you’re new to the Studio you can take advantage of any of our introductory offers:
    2 x 1:1 sessions for only £99;
    2 x 2:1 (duet) sessions for £118.50 – that’s less than £30 per person per session
    1 x 1:1 and 1 Reformer Class for £60 – that’s cheaper than 2 single reformer classes!

You can buy your Gift Certificate (for any value) below and you’ll get an electronic copy of the certificate.  If you’d like your Gift Certificate in a gift envelope, you can either collect it in the Studio, or we can post the Certificate to you.

    All Things Pilates Community Corner!

In our current Find Your Flow® program we have been working on what’s called the Kneeling Arm Series – facing the Side.  One of the movements is called Drawing a Sword (or the Travolta variation!).

This is a great exercise for improving rotator cuff strength and dynamic stability.  The rotator cuff is a group of muscles around the shoulder that help keep the shoulder joint stable, allowing the shoulder (a ball and socket joint) to rotate safely.

We use these muscles constantly – think about picking up a bag of shopping from the floor.  Most of us will reach in internal rotation of the shoulder and arm – (palm facing toward the floor) then begin find external rotation as we lift and carry the bag.  We’re constantly using the rotator cuff while doing housework, or gardening, and in sports like tennis, swimming and so on.

We can perform this movement in low kneeling or high kneeling.  From the high kneeling position, we are also challenging our core to maintain stability as we flow into and out of the movement.  During the course of the program, we’ve also been playing with the springs.  For some of us, initially, any spring is too strong, so we’ll use a weighted ball and still enjoy the full range of movement.  We might then progress to a light spring and gradually increase the load as we get stronger.  An important principle in this movement (and all Reformer movements) is that we control the spring – and not the other way around!

If you’d like to experience Reformer Pilates, you can book your place in our Reformer Plus classes, or join our Reformer Fundamentals class, using the link below.  We’d love to welcome you to the Studio!
