 What’s on this week: 15 – 20 May
Having fun with sword practice!

Dear <<First Name>>,

We hope you had a great Bank Holiday weekend – glued to the TV, enjoying a street party, or joining the big help out.  The Studio has been buzzing this week with reports of what everyone got up to!

We know that not everyone watched the TV coverage of the Coronation (although some of us couldn’t take our eyes off it!)  However, it was hard to miss the spectacle of Penny Mordaunt carrying the magnificent 17th Century Sword of State into Westminster Abbey.  Apparently, she had to take a couple of painkillers to help her get through what was an impressive feat.  If only she’d been doing Pilates beforehand – we’ve been practising drawing our swords for weeks!!  Take a look at Community Corner below to find out more.

Everything is back to normal in the Studio this week – check out the class timetable below.

This week, we’ll be segueing out of our current Find Your Flow® program and beginning work on our new program, which we’re calling Rowing.  As the name suggests, we’ll be working on our shoulder mobility and dynamic stability.  But that’s not all – we’ll also be working on strengthening our core and improving spinal mobility.  We’ll enjoy a full body workout that will help our posture and breathing.   We’ll also be having a lot of fun!  Over the next few weeks, we’ll take a closer look at some of the movements in the program.  (There’s a little taster in the picture above!)

As always, if Rowing isn’t your thing – don’t feel daunted by the program!  We’ll be able to offer tweaks or alternatives to the movement to help you get the most out of your class.

If you’d like to join in the fun, but haven’t tried Reformer Pilates, our Reformer Fundamentals classes are a great place to start.  We’ll show you the basics, but also incorporate some of the movements from our themed program, so that you’ll be able to join the Reformer Plus classes when you feel ready.

You can book your place in any of our classes using the link below.

We hope you have a great week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online soon!

All Things Pilates Community Corner!

Who would have thought that sword-wielding would become a talking point follow the Coronation!?

In our current Find Your Flow® program we have been working on what’s called the Kneeling Arm Series – facing the Side.  One of the movements is called Drawing a Sword (or the Travolta variation!).

This is a great exercise for improving rotator cuff strength and dynamic stability.  The rotator cuff is a group of muscles around the shoulder that help keep the shoulder joint stableallowing the shoulder (a ball and socket joint) to rotate safely We use these muscles constantly – think about picking up a bag of shopping from the floor.  Most of us will reach in internal rotation of the shoulder and arm – (palm facing toward the floor) then begin find external rotation as we lift and carry the bag.  We’re constantly using the rotator cuff while doing housework, or gardening, and in sports like tennis, swimming and so on.

We can perform this movement in low kneeling or high kneeling.  From the high kneeling position, we are also challenging our core to maintain stability as we flow into and out of the movement.

If you’d like to experience Reformer Pilates, you can book your place in our Reformer Plus classes, or join our Reformer Fundamentals classusing the link below.  We’d love to welcome you to the Studio!
