  Happy Halloween!
What’s on this week: 31 October – 5 November

Dear <<First Name>>,

We hope you remembered to turn the clocks back this morning and were able to enjoy the extra hour- however you used it!

We hope that many of you were able to enjoy the half-term break with family and friends and we look forward to welcoming you back to the studio.  Don’t forget that we have TWO new Reformer Plus Classes: on Mondays at 10am and on Tuesdays at 12.30pm.

If those times don’t suit, check out our full class timetable for November below.  If you still can’t find a time to suit, please let us know what would be your ideal time – we are always open to suggestions and if we can make it work, we will!

Another reminder for any of you who may be thinking about coming back to the studio – we carried over your credits from pre-pandemic and from our previous booking system, but those credits expire at the end of this year.  To check whether you have any remaining credits, go to our booking system – select ‘Redeem Package or Gift Certificate’ and enter your email address.  Your credits will appear and you can use them to book your class.

We are moving to a new Find Your Flow® program this week.  We’ll be working on Side Sit Up.  Read more about the movement and its benefits in our day to day lives in Community Corner below.

Have a great week and we look forward to seeing you in the studio or online soon!

For the next few weeks in the studio, we’ll be focusing on Side Sit Up.  It’s another of those movements that you can perform with a spine correctoron the floor, or on the reformer.  You can also practice Side Sit Up on the Ladder Barrel.

Side Sit Up is a complex movement – it challenges us to open our hips and find length and reach along the side of our bodies – from big toe to the crown of our head.  It really works our oblique muscles (at the side of our bodies, but also requires good alignment in our spines, legs and arms, so those muscles will also be working hard too.  Oh – and don’t be surprised if one side is much harder than the other – that happens to all of us!

While we get used to the movement, it’s quite easy to ‘cheat’ – the big muscles that are used to working hard will try to take over.  That’s why it’s important to focus first on form and getting the basics of the movement rightbefore moving onto greater challenge.  And don’t worry – as always, our teachers will help you find the right muscle groups to get the full benefits of the Side Sit Up!  (Have you ever noticed how, after a few subtle cues from your teacher, you find you’re working a lot harder?!)

You might be wondering how the Side Sit Up will benefit you in daily life – it’s not exactly a position we find ourselves in regularly!  It’s great for our posture, as it helps us find good alignment of our spines and strengthens the supporting muscles groups.  It also helps our breathing by strengthening all of the muscle groups around our ribs.  It will also help us rotate our bodies more freely – great for sport, household chores, dancing – so important in the run-up to the festive season!

As we practice Side Sit Up over the next few weeks, we’d love to know how it’s helping you in daily life.

If you’d like to experience the Side Sit Up, book your place in a class – we’d love to share it with you!
